Old School Tokyo Olympics

Tokyo wins the 2020 Olympic bid!

First of all, congratulations Tokyo! It’s been about 60 years since Tokyo first hosted the Olympic games. Though I must say, while I’m happy for Japan and the Japanese people, I hope this doesn’t become an excuse by those in power to brush aside the Fukushima situation. For now, let’s celebrate! Here’s to a happy and safe 2020 Olympics!

This week marks the start of my official JLPT season! I plan on registering for N2 in the next few days. This year you can apply on the JLPT website-convenient! I’ve been using both the old paper and pen study, as well as Anki, both with wonderful decks from others, and my own hand-made ones. Which brings me to my next topic…

For any Anki users looking for a N2 level kanji deck, I finally finished the one I started ages ago using Nihongo Somatome and uploaded onto Anki for anyone to download! Like the deck I made for N3, it is made up of compounds, not just kanji, because that is how I personally like to learn words. For an example of how to set it up:

Front: 連絡

Back: れんらく / contact, get in touch with

1-1

The number refers to the chapter in which the kanji can be found. So, 1-1 would mean that the word is in Week One, Day One of Nihongo Somatome. Easy reference if you find something wonky and want to doublecheck (I have made mistakes!)

Now, I’m not claiming that this is the best deck for everyone. I’m simply saying that this is what I prefer and if someone else can get some use out of it too, well then, I’m stoked!

Here where you can find my decks (blood, sweat and tears not included):
